Introducing Kaori Nishijima
Pianist/Composer Kaori Nishijima performs and collaborates not only with various musicians, but with dancers, painters, ceramic artists and others. She has been based in Kobe Japan, since her first album was released in 1998.
She has been noticeable in her melodious picturesque compositions, sensitive piano touch rooted in classical music, and her instinctive vocals.
In 2012 she lived in Sweden for 1 year, and the atomosphere of Scandinavia gave her great inspiration, especially regarding in free improvisation.
During her stay in Sweden, she recorded her 7th leader album “White in Dark (DIW The Grace)” with Yasuhito Mori (contrabass) and Anders Kjellberg (drums) at Nilento Studio in Göteborg 2013. Also her composition was featured by Bohuslän Big Band, and she played as a special member in the Lina Nyberg Band.
In 2014,she returned to Sweden for several concerts, including performances with her recording members at Nefertiti. She also collaborated on a project with Göteborg Operans Danskompani.
In 2015 to 2019 she visited Sweden several times, and played with her special trio; with Josef Kallerdahl(contrabass) and Konrad Agnas(drums) at Stockholm Jazz Festival(2015) and Viva Las Palmas(2016,2018), also with Linda Olah(voice), Monica Funck(painter),Anders Kjellberg, Yasuhito Mori and so on.
Under the pandemic, she concentrated on creating domestically and started a solo project on Bandcamp in 2020.
She’s currently leading these projects.
